Opportunities

The adage “Once a Humboldtian, always a Humboldtian” applies to alumni of AvH programs all over the world, and American Friends of AvH is committed to the lifelong engagement of US Humboldtians in all fields and phases of professional development. We offer a variety of ways for US Humboldtians to maintain close ties — with American Friends of AvH and the AvH, with hosts and partners in Germany, and with one another.

Our programs offer a variety of ways for our alumni and partners to come together to discuss critical global issues and we invite you to take advantage of these opportunities.

US Humboldt alumni have a variety of opportunities to maintain close ties — with American Friends of AvH and the AvH, with hosts and partners in Germany, and with one another. We invite US Humboldtians to take advantage of our Alumni Council US Engagement Awards; become a Humboldtian on Campus; apply for a further research stay or AvH funding for conferences organized by and for Humboldtians (Kollegs); invite colleagues from Germany for a short stay in the United States; host a German fellow at your institution; and join others with connections to Germany through engagement with the many German-American partner organizations in the United States.

Humboldtians on Campus

Humboldtians on Campus (HoCs) are volunteer alumni from all Humboldt fellowship and award programs who are based at public and private research universities, liberal arts colleges, as well as at government agencies, nonprofit organizations, and the private sector. HoCs play a vital role in sustaining the connections among the almost 6,000 members of the US Humboldt Alumni Network in the United States and ensuring the visibility of the Humboldt Foundation and the strength of the applicant pool of future Humboldtians.

Humboldtians, who have first-hand experience in the German research and professional landscape, can be especially effective in promoting the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation’s programs. We invite you to serve as an HoC and help us connect to Humboldtians or prospective Humboldtians on your campus or in your field of professional endeavor. Our office is happy to share lists of alumni on your campus/at your institution.
