Our Impact
While we receive an appropriation from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation to support our mission and administer shared programs, our budget relies on additional gifts and grants to support our programs for US alumni. As a US nonprofit organization, AFAvH is required to generate at least 10% of its operating budget from public support and as a US 501(c)(3), we must actively fundraise to support our work and demonstrate public trust as part of our charitable tax status.
Donor Honor Roll
Our goal is to raise $100,000 for the 2024 American Friends of AvH annual fund that will support the following programs:
-
Alumni Council Grants
Alumni Council US Engagement Awards that provide funding for alumni-led events around the country.
-
Expanded programs and events
An expanded slate of in-person symposia, workshops, and lectures on critical issues in international research collaboration highlighting the unique contributions of Humboldtians to key debates at the science–society–policy nexus. Working with local and international partners to pool resources and expertise to help solve today’s most critical issues.
-
Humboldt Dialogues
Humboldt Dialogues, virtual events that bring together alumni and partners to discuss issues at the science, society, and policy nexus.
-
HBCU and MSI Outreach
An expanded campaign to spread the word about AvH programs at Historically Black Colleges and Universities and Minority Serving Institutions to encourage Americans from diverse backgrounds to apply to AvH programs, and more!
