American Friends of AvH and Indiana University’s Hamilton Lugar School of Global & International Studies, Institute for European Studies, hosted a screening of the 2023 German film “Measures of Men.” The film tells the story of the Herero and Namaqua genocide perpetrated in German Southwest Africa (now Namibia) between 1904 and 1908. The film’s director Lars Kraume attended the screening in person and Ruprecht Polenz, special envoy of the German Government for the negotiations between Germany and Namibia about the colonial past, joined the post-screening Q&A session virtually.

Humboldtian and AFAvH Board member Šumit Ganguly, Distinguished Professor of Political Science and the Tagore Chair in Indian Cultures and Civilizations at Indiana University, served as program host and panel moderator. The panel also included Indiana University professors Julia Roos and John Henry Hanson. AFAvH President Christian Haenel provided welcoming remarks.
